2015 Home Trends – Hot or Not?

If you’re going to put time and money into building a new home, you might as well make sure it’s everything you want it to be. Here are some fun new trends designers are anticipating for 2015. Read on to see if any of them spark your imagination!

ARCHITECTURE & FURNITURE

According to Zillow, mid-century modern elements in architecture as well as furniture is one of the biggest up-and-coming home design trends for 2015. However, keep in mind that trends such as these should serve as inspiration, but should not be overdone!

COLORS

Everyone’s talking about colors, but what colors are hottest is up for discussion.  According to Sherwin-Williams, people are opting for brighter colors now that we’re out of a recession.  Check out their Coral Reef, color #6606, which they’re saying reflects America’s new optimism for the future.

Pinterest seems to support this idea, as a majority of the color trends for spring on display are certainly bright, bubbly and even traditional Easter holiday colors.

Conde Nast Traveler would have you believe that ochre is the “it” color of the moment. Inspired by recent fashion trends, ochre is transitioning into home design, where it makes a dramatic impact when paired with rich, velvet jewel tones.

Remodelista’s pick for interior wall color of the year is a gorgeous yet humble pale, dusty pink called “Pink Ground” from Farrow & Ball. It pairs especially well with black or grey furniture.

KITCHENS & BATHROOMS

An organic look for appliances is a continuing trend. Buttons on dishwashers are being gracefully hidden; refrigerators and ovens are made to blend into the kitchen’s décor, so that sometimes they’re even hard to find! Take a look at the Zen Oven by Amica, which has a crisp white façade with a simple wood handle and two black buttons –  the perfect accent to a minimalist kitchen.

Marble backsplashes are being used to create an exotic look and accent piece in any kitchen, while jewel-toned tiles in fun shapes are a stylish option for master baths or even guest baths and go great with vintage tubs.

THE LIBRARY

Surprisingly, in a country obsessed with getting online, libraries filled with old-fashioned books (made with paper!) are back in style. According to Details.com, libraries with actual books are making a comeback. Maybe it has something to do with the popularity of Downton Abbey, or perhaps people are simply nostalgic for the old days. Even VCR’s are coming back!

San Antonio’s Job Market Continues to Grow and Diversify

The city of San Antonio manages to maintain the best of both worlds. Many people love living in and around San Antonio because it’s a big city with a small town community. As a very family-oriented city, it’s still a wonderful place to raise your kids. We have some of the best schools in the country. The Northeast School of the Arts, for example, is one of the top 10 best arts schools in the United States.

San Antonio also affords its citizens a low cost of living and access to all of the amenities you expect from a big city. Some might say San Antonio is behind the times when it comes to job opportunities and pay rates. However, this reality is changing. Living in San Antonio is evolving from one of the best kept secrets to a well-known fact.

With a championship-winning basketball team (Go Spurs!), and all of the previously mentioned attributes, there’s no denying that San Antonio’s star is rising fast. Large and respected companies, such as Toyota, are starting to recognize the amazing opportunities available to them by either staying here or moving here.

Rackspace, which was founded in San Antonio, has grown into the #1 managed cloud company worldwide and has 5,700 employees, many of which live and work at their SA-based corporate headquarters. Not only does Rackspace always have a vast number of competitive jobs available, co-founder, Graham Weston, has been instrumental in shaping the way the rest of the country views this city. Rackspace is a key supporter of the arts and has sponsored many arts and culture related events such as Luminaria, which has helped demonstrate to the U.S. that San Antonio is more and more competitive on all fronts.

Other tech companies, such as SecureLogix, Futurex and CYFOR Technologies, have also discovered the viability of working in San Antonio. While we may not be on quite the same playing field as Austin, there is a burgeoning tech industry here, one that is being supported by tech collaboratives like Geekdom.

Additionally, according to Bloomberg Business, the expansion of military medicine at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio will bring 10,000 new jobs to the area and Toyota’s expanded Tacoma production is expected to create more openings as well.

Government projects such as the San Antonio river walk are expected to stimulate construction employment and also create new businesses. According to the Conference Board, there were 33,400 online ads for jobs in the area in June (of 2014), 20.9 percent more than in June 2009.

If you live here, you’re familiar with the hometown giants, AT&T and HEB, which continue to grow and expand in and out of town. Point being, there’s no shortage of phenomenal job opportunities in the Alamo city, so it’s an excellent time to build roots here.

If you’re ready to build your next new home in the greater San Antonio area, we’re ready to make that happen! For more information, call us today at 210-494-5400.
