Life can often seem random, but sometimes those chance occurrences are the ones that stick – as is the case with Stone Creek Custom Homes’ two founders, Jason Gale and Jesse Pigott. We thought you might like to learn a little bit more about these two gentlemen, as they’re not the kind of guys that talk much about themselves. They’re usually far more interested in their clients, the work they’re doing, and of course, their families.

They first met over a decade ago when Jason was selling land, and Jesse bought a lot from him out in Timberwood Park. Both born and raised in San Antonio – Jason went to Castle Hills First Baptist High School while Jesse attended Clark High School – they also shared (and still do!) a mutual appreciation for hunting and fishing.

Jason:  I was building my house with another friend of mine, and it wasn’t going as well as I thought it could have. At the same time, Jesse was building his own home with another of friend of his. I had a lot in Timberwood so I approached him about building a spec house, which we sold before we were even done framing.

Jesse:  It happened by chance, but one project led to another and it snowballed. That’s basically how this whole thing got going.

Jesse originally worked in sales in a completely different industry, but had aspirations of owning his own company.

Jesse:  We love making someone else’s dreams a reality. Seeing something start from a scratch pad design and evolve into something you’re living in is pretty cool.

As for home life, Jason and Jesse are very family-oriented and love spending time with their families. Jason balances his love for flying, fishing and hunting and family time. He has a passion for showing the kids his love for the outdoors. With a lovely wife, a daughter and two sons, life is busy. Some of their favorite memories are at the beach in Florida and Port Aransas.

If Jason and the boys had it their way, they would spend every moment at the ranch or fishing in Port Mansfield, hopefully catching swordfish. Fishing usually means catch and release, but the family gets super excited when it’s served on the dinner table. As the youngest says, “I like that swordfish chicken!”

Jason’s family also run two fireworks stands around the Fourth of July and New Year’s Eve.

Jason:  It’s more of a hobby. My daughter loves it. She takes charge, helps with inventory, pricing, and sales. It’s a great way for her to learn how to run a business for herself. She basically does it all, and I’m just there to help.

Jesse, who remarried a year ago to a beautiful lady, now has a family of five kids. Jesse also enjoys hunting and shares that passion with his kids. His family loves to spend time together at their home away from home at lake LBJ, swimming, riding jet skis and just relaxing.

Jesse:  We go there to eat, drink and listen to good music. It’s one of our favorite spots.

Get to the Beach Before Winter is Over!

If you think the beach is only good for summer, think again?! In fact, winter at the beach can be the best time to go relax and find utter serenity. No matter how much we love San Antonio, nothing brings a new sense of appreciation for our homes than a mini vacation. In Texas, all the smart Snow Birds head to South Padre Island, but you better hurry because summer will be here before we know it!

You might not want to dip your toes in the water, but if you’re lucky, you’ll still enjoy an 80-degree day sunning on the sand with a good book. If you forgot your book, don’t worry! South Padre Island has a bunch of little gems, and one of them happens to be the best book store in Texas.

Paragraphs Book Store

Book lovers will cherish this warm and cozy independent book store. The owners, a husband and wife team, are not only knowledgeable and friendly – the kind of characters you expect to find in a small Texas town, but the selection is thoughtful and eclectic and includes popular reads as well as classics and more obscure titles. You can expect to walk out of there with books for yourself as well as your friends and family. Paragraphs is located at 5505 Padre Blvd. Make sure to also inquire about book signings and other events, which are hosted throughout the year.

Outdoor Adventures

After an hour or two at the book store, you might be ready to get outside. Although they don’t see as many visitors as during the summer, it’s still fun to go to the Birding and Nature Center and walk around to see what you’ll find. This part of Texas is home to hundreds of indigenous species.

You can also explore the lives of turtles at Sea Turtle, Inc., which is located on the northern end of Padre Boulevard. They offer presentations about turtle conservation and kid-friendly activities all year long. In the spring, you can watch as they release the baby sea turtles back into the wild.

Lastly, don’t miss out on the chance to go on a dolphin watch. Although they’re limited during wintertime (make sure to call ahead), this is such a wonderful excursion. Nothing is more rejuvenating than the ocean air and, without fail, the dolphins will find you!

Foodie Finds at the Beach

You don’t always expect to find incredible food at the beach, but you’re in for a huge treat in South Padre. A good lunch spot for beach food is Harpoon’s Surf Bar & Grill. Everything is made from scratch, and they serve up some of the best fried fish you’ll ever eat!

For some fine dining options, or as fine as you’ll find this far south, Sea Ranch offers great ocean views and fantastic seafood – from blackened gulf shrimp to oysters and perfectly-cooked red snapper.

When you get tired of seafood, Gabriella’s Italian Grill & Pizzeria can compete with just about any other Italian restaurant around. Grab a big plate of “Momma’s Spaghetti,” or our favorite pizza – Clams Casino!

San Antonio’s Job Market Continues to Grow and Diversify

The city of San Antonio manages to maintain the best of both worlds. Many people love living in and around San Antonio because it’s a big city with a small town community. As a very family-oriented city, it’s still a wonderful place to raise your kids. We have some of the best schools in the country. The Northeast School of the Arts, for example, is one of the top 10 best arts schools in the United States.

San Antonio also affords its citizens a low cost of living and access to all of the amenities you expect from a big city. Some might say San Antonio is behind the times when it comes to job opportunities and pay rates. However, this reality is changing. Living in San Antonio is evolving from one of the best kept secrets to a well-known fact.

With a championship-winning basketball team (Go Spurs!), and all of the previously mentioned attributes, there’s no denying that San Antonio’s star is rising fast. Large and respected companies, such as Toyota, are starting to recognize the amazing opportunities available to them by either staying here or moving here.

Rackspace, which was founded in San Antonio, has grown into the #1 managed cloud company worldwide and has 5,700 employees, many of which live and work at their SA-based corporate headquarters. Not only does Rackspace always have a vast number of competitive jobs available, co-founder, Graham Weston, has been instrumental in shaping the way the rest of the country views this city. Rackspace is a key supporter of the arts and has sponsored many arts and culture related events such as Luminaria, which has helped demonstrate to the U.S. that San Antonio is more and more competitive on all fronts.

Other tech companies, such as SecureLogix, Futurex and CYFOR Technologies, have also discovered the viability of working in San Antonio. While we may not be on quite the same playing field as Austin, there is a burgeoning tech industry here, one that is being supported by tech collaboratives like Geekdom.

Additionally, according to Bloomberg Business, the expansion of military medicine at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio will bring 10,000 new jobs to the area and Toyota’s expanded Tacoma production is expected to create more openings as well.

Government projects such as the San Antonio river walk are expected to stimulate construction employment and also create new businesses. According to the Conference Board, there were 33,400 online ads for jobs in the area in June (of 2014), 20.9 percent more than in June 2009.

If you live here, you’re familiar with the hometown giants, AT&T and HEB, which continue to grow and expand in and out of town. Point being, there’s no shortage of phenomenal job opportunities in the Alamo city, so it’s an excellent time to build roots here.

If you’re ready to build your next new home in the greater San Antonio area, we’re ready to make that happen! For more information, call us today at 210-494-5400.
